These two were done in ArtRage using a stencil.
Using the stencil the normal way.

I inverted the same stencil for this effect.

The smudginess is due to the watercolour canvas I used which was done in Photoshop
I like both the effects I got.

sister KishFor drop shadow it depends on the image. Normally I would use black at about 50-60% or #7c716d (a sort of a pinkish grey
) at 75%.For black text I don't normally use drop shadow. If I do; I change the color to a color that has a good contrast with the rest of the image.
Play with the options you will be surprised what effects you can get.
